Optical Measurement Technology for Spray Research
ai-quanton GmbH develops optical measurement systems for the characterization of droplets, particles and sprays. The company manufactures measurement hardware such as the LSS1 and LSS2 probes as well as the ZEON and IMEA control and evaluation units, and develops software matched to them for measurement, visualization and data analysis. The measurement technology is based on Time-Shift-Time-of-Flight (TSTOF) light-scattering technology, combined with classical and AI-supported signal evaluation. The SprayQuantAI, ParticleTensorAI and SprayConeAI platforms serve the analysis of individual droplets and the monitoring of spraying processes, for example in paint applications. Probe geometry, working distance, detector configuration, electronics and data interfaces are adapted to the specific application. Founded in 2013 as a spin-off of TU Darmstadt, the company is based in Laudenbach and cooperates with universities, research institutes and industrial partners.

Measurement Tasks and Media
Time-Shift-Time-of-Flight light-scattering technology
Incoherent light scattering from individual droplets provides time-resolved signals for size, velocity and concentration.
SprayQuantAI®
Characterizes individual droplets in sprays and flows (size, velocity, count) with classical or AI-based evaluation.
ParticleTensorAI®
Analyzes scattered-light signal sequences as multidimensional tensors, among other things for the classification of coal-laden slurry sprays.
SprayConeAI®
Web-based image analysis of spray cones and spray patterns from smartphone, tablet or PC.
Shadow technique for diameter measurement
Calibration-free optical radius/diameter determination of rotationally symmetric components, e.g. in filament winding; measurement accuracy approx. ±0.05 mm.
