About Bernex
Bernex Bimetall AG, headquartered in Trimbach (Switzerland), has been active in the plastics industry for over 50 years and, as part of the Bernex Group, is one of the leading European manufacturers of bimetallic barrels, screws and plasticizing units. The product portfolio includes simple screws for injection moulding and extrusion, co-rotating and counter-rotating twin screws, multi-part screws, mixing and shearing elements, screw tips, non-return valves as well as bimetallic barrels with wear-protected inner layers. In production, steel tubes are centrifugally lined with powder-metal alloys (A110, AC333, C242, ACW800), melted in a furnace, evenly distributed by rotation, honed and mechanically finished. In addition, screws are armoured with PTA welding machines (BC1/BC6/BC12, BN56, BF60, BNW 830), nitrided or given PVD thin-film coatings (TiN, CrN, multilayers). Another mainstay is the complete regeneration of worn screws and barrels, including wear analysis, build-up welding, grinding and milling. With production sites in the Czech Republic (Bernex Bimetall s.r.o., Modrice) and Italy (OMG S.p.A., Brescia) as well as a presence in Thailand, the Group primarily supplies European plastics processors.

Materials and Coatings
A110 bimetallic layer (iron-based)
Standard layer against abrasion for plastics with filler content up to 10 %, hardness 58–65 HRC.
AC333 bimetallic layer (iron-based Fe/Cr)
Multifunctional layer against abrasion and corrosion, suitable for glass fibre contents up to approx. 30 %, hardness 64–69 HRC.
C242 bimetallic layer (nickel-based)
Low-iron nickel-based layer for corrosive plastics such as PVC, PUR and fluoropolymers, hardness 48–56 HRC.
ACW800 bimetallic layer (tungsten carbide-based)
Protection against abrasion and corrosion for highly filled plastics through tungsten carbides in a nickel matrix, hardness 58–66 HRC.
Flight armouring, cobalt-based (C, Cr, W)
Cobalt-based screw armouring with hardnesses of 38–57 HRC depending on type.
Flight armouring, nickel-based (C, Si, Cr, B, Fe)
Nickel-based armouring alloy for screw flights with hardness 52–56 HRC.
Flight armouring, iron-based (Cr, V)
Iron-based armouring alloy with hardness 51–58 HRC for screw flights.
Flight armouring, nickel-based + tungsten carbide (WC/W2C)
Nickel-based armouring with tungsten carbides for maximum wear protection, hardness 56–60 HRC.
Tool steel (through-hardened)
For through-hardened screws with diameters of 18–80 mm and lengths up to 2'000 mm.
Nitriding steel
Material for nitrided screws and barrels in standard versions.
PVD thin-film coating
TiN, CrN and multilayer coatings for additional protection of the screw geometry.
