About Brainlab
Brainlab is a medical technology company founded in 1989 by Stefan Vilsmeier in Munich that develops digital technologies for surgery and radiation therapy. The company develops software and hardware for creating digital patient models, for image-guided navigation, for intraoperative imaging, and for patient positioning in radiosurgery and radiotherapy – including navigation systems such as Curve and Kick, the Buzz Digital O.R. platform, the ExacTrac Dynamic positioning system with submillimeter-accurate positioning, and, via its subsidiary medPhoton, the mobile intraoperative imaging robot Loop-X. Around 2,100 employees, more than 541 of them in research and development, work on the digitalization, automation and optimization of clinical workflows. Over 7,100 systems are installed worldwide in around 120 countries; approximately 1,300 hospitals use the technologies, including ten of the leading neurological and neurosurgical clinics in the USA. The headquarters has been located since 2016 on the site of the former Munich-Riem airport (Olof-Palme-Straße 9); further locations exist, among others, in Chicago, São Paulo, Paris, Madrid, Milan and Cambridge. Since June 2025, the company has operated as an SE; previously the Snke Group was spun off.
