About Forum Alte Werft

The Forum Alte Werft is the culture and event centre of the city of Papenburg and operates the cultural heart of the city. It brings together the Stadthalle with up to 789 seats, the Theater auf der Werft with 239 seats, the Kunstschule Zinnober art school and the Municipal Gallery under one roof. The building complex was created from the renovated production halls of the former Meyer Werft, which the city of Papenburg acquired after its relocation. During the renovation starting in 1992, the industrial heritage was deliberately preserved; individual machines from the shipyard era can still be seen today inside the building and on the outdoor grounds. Musicals, concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions and congresses are held, organised by Papenburg Kultur. Both venues feature professional stage, lighting and sound technology set in historic industrial architecture.
