The Gassenschmiede in Sohland an der Spree is a sixth-generation family business with a tradition dating back to 1852. The company manufactures and installs interior and exterior stairs, railings, gate and fence systems for commercial and private enclosures as well as steel wire mesh pallets and steel wire mesh boxes. In addition, custom-made products, special shapes and frame constructions are produced to customer specifications, including drawings and, if required, structural analysis. The value chain includes welding (MAG, WIG, spot welding, electrode and stud welding), sheet metal working on guillotine shears and bending machines, machining with CNC band saw, milling, drilling and turning as well as pipe bending and profile punching. Materials are primarily steel and stainless steel. Galvanizing, powder coating and 3D laser cutting are performed as subcontracted services by partner companies. The business is located in the Gasse industrial estate in Sohland an der Spree in Upper Lusatia (district of Bautzen).
