Sägewerk Meier in Schmidgaden

The Sägewerk Meier sawmill in Schmidgaden in the Upper Palatinate is a long-established wood processing business, founded in 1960 by Michael Meier and run since 2000 by his grandson Wolfgang Meier. The company purchases roundwood in fixed lengths of 4 m or 5 m in the species spruce, fir and pine, occasionally also long logs, and measures it on a calibrated roundwood measuring system. The value chain comprises sawing on a gang saw and double-blade edger, board sorting, drying in vacuum and kiln drying chambers, and planing. Boards, planks, square-sawn timber and laths are sold to major customers as well as end consumers; wood chips and splitter wood are also offered for self-collection. Repeatedly extended halls, an automated saw hall and a warehouse for dried sawn timber form the infrastructure for roundwood purchasing, sawing, drying and finishing.
