About Metallgießerei Wilhelm Funke

The metal foundry Metallgießerei Wilhelm Funke GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1960 as a pure aluminium foundry in Alfeld (Leine) and today produces, with around 100 employees, individual parts, small series and prototypes in aluminium, magnesium, heavy metal, grey and spheroidal cast iron as well as permanent mold castings. The range of processes includes sand casting, permanent mold casting and counter-pressure casting; in addition, artistic casting projects and castings for art objects are realized. In the company's own pattern-making shop, production patterns are made from wood, plastic and metal, along with CAD design, molds, jigs and fixtures, rapid prototyping and reverse engineering. Machining is carried out on eight 5-axis machining centers, supplemented by laser welding and optical measurement. The company's castings are used, among other things, in high-end sports cars and prototype vehicles; further customers come from aerospace and mechanical engineering. Production capacity is approximately 350 tonnes of castings per year.

Heavy metal

Alloys produced by sand casting for applications with higher density requirements.

Sandguss

Sand casting

Flexible process for individual parts, small series and prototypes in aluminium, magnesium, grey and spheroidal cast iron.

Kokillenguss

Permanent mold casting

Permanent mold process for aluminium and magnesium castings with reproducible quality.

DDG

Counter-pressure casting

Casting process for dense, fine-structured lightweight metal components.

RP

Rapid prototyping

Fast sample production as a manufacturing alternative before series production begins.

CNC

CNC machining

Mechanical final machining of castings on 5-axis machining centers.

LS

Laser welding

Repair and joining work on castings and patterns.
