Spühl GmbH is a Swiss mechanical engineering company founded in 1877, headquartered in Wittenbach (St. Gallen), which develops and manufactures wire-processing machines for the automatic and semi-automatic production of innerspring units and hybrid products for the mattress and upholstered furniture industry. Under the Fides brand, the portfolio includes pocket spring machines (FPC-120, FPA-300), Bonnell transfer machines (FT-81) as well as special machines such as frame bending machines, storage systems, rollpack machines and rollpack openers. The machines are manufactured entirely in Switzerland and sold in more than 150 countries. In addition to machine building, the company offers build-to-order contract manufacturing: parts, assemblies or complete machines for third parties, from development to customer service. Its range of services includes service, spare parts, training, Smart Services (Monitoring & Analytics, Connect, Schedule) and service agreements. Spühl invests up to 10% of revenue in research and development and is a subsidiary of the American Leggett & Platt, Inc.

Spiral wire (Helical)
1,3–1,4 mm for joining the spring rows into innerspring units.
Pocket fabric
Cotton or non-woven, ultrasonically welded around the springs.
Frame material (steel)
Round bar 3–5 mm or flat bar 10 x 1,3 mm, tensile strength up to 1'800 N/mm².

Heinrich Spühl founds the Spühl inventor's workshop in St. Gallen; his machine for manufacturing upholstery innerspring units is licensed for sale from 1883 to 1886.
