About Wegener Hardening Technology

Wegener Härtetechnik GmbH is a specialist in metal processing located in the Industrial Area East in Homburg (Saarland). The company carries out heat treatments on various types of steel, including vacuum hardening with high-pressure gas quenching (nitrogen, helium), vacuum carburizing, protective gas heat treatment with oil quenching, carbonitriding, plasma nitriding, as well as tempering, annealing, and vacuum plating. The vacuum hardening and vacuum multi-chamber systems operate at a nominal temperature of 1300 °C with a batch weight of 650 kg and a batch size of 600 x 600 x 900 mm. Treated materials include high-speed steels, hot-worked and cold-worked steels, oil-hardening steels, and heat-treated steels such as 42CrMo4 and ball bearing steels such as 100Cr6. The range of services is supplemented by salt bath treatment, part cleaning, abrasive blasting, and a proprietary materials testing laboratory featuring hardness testing, metallography, magnetic testing, carbon analysis, and spectrometry. Customers come primarily from the tooling industry, the ball bearing industry, and mass/series production.

Quality and Testing

In the proprietary materials testing laboratory, hardness tests according to Brinell, Vickers, and Rockwell, metallographic examinations to assess hardness depth, and magnetic inductive raster tests (Magnatest) to control batch uniformity are performed. Carbon analysis and spectrometer analysis, including material mix analysis, supplement the testing; for parts subject to documentation requirements, witness samples are retained.
