About WESSNER Engineering
WESSNER Engineering GmbH is a mid-sized, family-owned company headquartered in Hettingen on the Swabian Alb, where it has operated a laser technology center since 2014. As a contract manufacturer, the company specializes in 3D laser processing of three-dimensional components: 3D laser cutting, laser welding (deep penetration welding and heat conduction welding), partial laser hardening and laser marking. With complete manufacturing including milling, the process chain is covered from blanking through joining to mechanical finishing and assembly. Materials processed include steel, CrNi steel (stainless steel), nickel-based materials such as INCONEL, aluminium and copper; workpieces up to 4000 x 1500 x 750 mm (X/Y/Z). The core competence lies in the development of laser processing processes as well as in fixture design and construction (prototypes and series fixtures). Customers come from the automotive, mechanical engineering, medical technology and food industries; the company is a premium supplier to the TRUMPF Group.

Materials and Processes
3D laser cutting
Cutting of three-dimensional components, from small precise contours to trimming of large formed and deep-drawn parts (max. 4000 x 1500 x 750 mm; 15 mm steel, 8 mm stainless steel).
Laser welding
Deep penetration welding and heat conduction welding with a small heat-affected zone and minimal distortion, weld depths up to 10 mm, special processes such as filler wire and remote welding.
Laser hardening
Partial hardening of functional surfaces as a cost-effective alternative to heat treatment of wear-prone components.
Laser marking
Precise, permanent marking of metal components (numbers, letters, characters), even in the same operation as welding, cutting and hardening.
Milling (complete manufacturing)
Mechanical finishing as part of the end-to-end complete manufacturing of complex components.
Steel
Laser cutting up to 15 mm sheet thickness, welding and hardening.
CrNi steel (stainless steel)
Laser cutting up to 8 mm sheet thickness as well as laser marking.
Nickel-based materials (e.g. INCONEL)
Laser processing of high-strength materials for demanding applications.
Aluminium
Laser cutting, welding and marking.
Copper
Laser cutting and laser welding.

Quality
In its own metallography laboratory, weld seams and hardening traces are measured and analyzed microscopically; in addition, hardness testing, microstructure analysis, crack testing, surface roughness and coating thickness measurement as well as the FARO Gage 3D measuring system are used. The quality management system is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 by GTÜ Certification GmbH.
